Jamaica's cuisine is known for its warm and aromatic flavors, most of which come from the various spices used in the dishes. The most commonly used spices include ginger, nutmeg, and allspice. Allspice is made from the dried pimento plant berry. The pimento plant is native to the island and is largely exported. In addition to some of the common plant ingredients found on the Jamaican island, there are a well documented outside influence such as spices from Asia and Africa.
